The Texas Association of Healthcare Interpreters and Translators (TAHIT) continues its statewide outreach to ensure equal qualifications for healthcare interpreters and translators.

On June 19th, 2009 Governor Rick Perry signed a bill establishing a committee to oversee Healthcare Interpreter Qualifications. The bill will establish a committee representing multiple stakeholder groups to ensure effective communication within health care for the 6.8 million Texas residents that speak a language other than English in the home.

With soaring health care costs, understaffed hospitals, and an increasingly diverse immigrant population facing the Texas healthcare industry, the Texas Association of Healthcare Interpreters and Translators has invited leading organizations and individuals from across the nation to explore ways to decrease costs and increase access while serving patient populations in languages other than English.
